In this case, the "ten" refers to either a minimum of ten or the top ten percent of all reviewed modules. So, a reviewer with a legacy of more than a hundred reviews, will show more than the usual ten. So, this page is where the journeyman reviewers will tell you, in a nutshell, what their top selections are. In some rare cases, there might be fewer than ten modules listed. This is because anything scored less than a 70 ("good") isn't really appropriate. Some reviewers are harder to please than others, or just didn't get as many high-quality modules to review, leaving a lot of modules with relatively low scores. -=- As an additional tool, most of the reviewers have provided a bit of info regarding their musical preferences. This can be used, generally, as something to match your own tastes to so that you can see which of these top ten lists might best show modules you'd like too. You can click on the module's title to skip to the review of that module by the reviewer in question. If the title is not highlighted, it didn't get a worded review, only a rating. -----========================================----- Top Ten additions From the Most Recent Week's Set WolfSong adds Awakening -----========================================----- -----========================================----- Reviewer Index -----======================----- Reviewers with 50+ Reviews Reviewer # of Reviews -------------------------------- Mansooj 208 Rebriffer 190 MING 176 Peraphon 139 CCerberus 124 Skullsaw 112 WolfSong 96 Fanta C 78 Shrift 60 Red Death (inactive) 53 Current Active Reviewers Below Minimum (counting only published reviews) Reviewer # of Reviews -------------------------------- Quasar 48 Araneus 46 ChroMix 37 ESP 35 Nova 30 Clones 17 Husanak 14 Shih Tzu 14 Mysterium 11 Nemesis 9 Anders Akerheden 8 Emit 7 TheKid 7 JRice 5 Cubix 4 Walrus26 3 Zond 3 3 Old Wolf 1 Kazmeyer 0 -----======================----- -----========================================----- -----=============================================================----- Mansooj [208 reviews] "My preferences range from New Age (Jarre's a favorite) to Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, are favorites here). I don't care much for Punk, Reggae, Country, or much of the stuff termed Hardcore. Rap and Hip Hop are annoying as hell. On the flipside, I very much go for orchestrals and Wagnerian style classical. I find Techno to be a chameleon with too many shades to be accurate with, but I like the faster paced styles. Toss in some Blancmange, a side of Abba and few slabs of Dio, Rush, Boston and Rainbow and that about rounds out the picture. Picasso, eat your heart out!" A piece has to really stand out in other genres such as acid, rave and funk for me to add it to my meagre module collection. I have tried listening to different pieces in the jungle and house styles, but I just can't seem to get into them. Such pieces aren't going to score exceptionally high from me. My favourite mod composers are Purple Motion, Skaven, Vogue, Bedlamite, Prism, C.C.Catch, Soul, Captain, Siren, and Zodiak. I also like Mick Rippon, Vad and Jogeir Liljedahl. Usually any pieces that fit in with these composers I will like. Music which is repetitious or doesn't strike any recognitive chord with me will most likely be more of a burden for me to listen to than a pleasure. Historically, the types of emotional responses that I have preferred for my music to supply are aggressive, 'large', dominating feelings. Therefore, I often listen to and compose songs that contain elements of classical music and metal. Happy songs generally do little for me, but I've heard some good exceptions. Additionally, and importantly, I tend to like music with a theme--some central concept which supplies the song with coherence and wholeness. Any song written with a 'topic' in mind will probably tend to spark my interest (and if a song sparks my interest, I'm much more likely to ENJOY IT). :) I feel that the best music comes from the DEEPEST parts of the mind and spirit, be they dark or brilliant." It's only been recently that I've been able to checkout the PC mod scene and I must say I'm impressed (if not jealous). My preferences in styles knows no bounds, both in mods and real world formats. I can say that I lean towards the techno realm and all of its sub-genres. The only mod style that I can honestly say I have an intense dislike for is the 'demo' style. It all sounds like background music for computer games. Being that I use an Amiga running at a pitiful 25mhz, I don't know if I can accurately judge +4 channel mod's technical aspects such as sample quality and effectes usage. I can, however, judge musicality, which I think supercedes all other aspects. If you really want to knock my socks off then something with a bit of nicely executed surrealism, eerie-ness or "darkness" seems to do it every time. Those are the ones that tend to stay on my hard drive permanently. People whose work I've consistently enjoyed (and been inspired by in my own module writing) are LizardKing, Vouge, Mick Rippon, Elwood, Skaven, Leviathan and Purple Motion, though I have been moved by most all styles of music at one time or another. Having slaved over my own MODs (with no success at all!), I know how much work goes into it. If I had to classify my preferences then the list would look like this: Classical, light/middle rock, pop, instrumentalism and landscaping. The two most important things to me are melody and technical achievment (bearing in mind the inherent limitations of any one format).
